Earth 2 - The Complete Series (PG)
Back in the mid 90's in the heyday of Babylon 5 & Star Trek Deep Space Nine, there was another sci fi series that was somewhere between these and the yet renvisioned Battlestar Galatica. Featuring a solid cast ( Clancy Brown, Jessica Steen, Rebecca Gayheart, Antonio Sabato Jr., Walter Norman, Marcia Magus, Tierre Turner, Kirk Trutner & Rockmond Dunbar) a great set of cameo performances (Tim Curry, Virginia Madsen).
Devon Adair (Debrah Farentino), who is struggling to find a healthy environment for her deathly ill son, Ulysses. Disregarding government orders, she puts together an expedition to establish new civilisation on an Earth-like planet 22 light years in the future. But after their ship crash-lands on the wrong side of planet G889, the ''colonists'' quickly discover that their new home already has some very strange and hostile inhabitants.
It's not hard to figure out that you have a live action retelling of the Ulysses legend and after a shaky start it starts to gather momentum pretty quickly and ends up being one of those series like Firefly that is remembered fondly by those who saw it first time around. Now released on DVD, the fans old and new will get a chance to view one of the better 90's Sci Fi series around. Definitely worth checking out, but only if you like your sci fi epics like Battlestar Galatica. In fact it's safe to say that there's a generous amount of this that looks like it has been lifted out and put into the plots of Galatica. Take a look and see. You get 5 discs and a few extras that make this a worthwhile package to own.
Extras:
- Deleted & Extended Scenes - 8 scenes from 5 episodes (Water, Better Living Through Morganite, Redemption, All About Eve, Survival Of The Fittest)
- Blooper Reel
- Outtakes
